TDMC stands as a prestigious institution catering to the educational needs of undergraduate MBBS students. Each batch accommodates a total of 175 aspiring medical scholars. Within the medicine department, a cohort of 30 students is assigned for a period of two months, following a rotation-based system that ensures comprehensive exposure and experience. The morning hours, from 8 to 9 am, are dedicated to invigorating discourse in Subbarao Hall and Babinski hall wherein topic discussions serve to stimulate intellectual growth and knowledge exchange. From 9 am to 12 pm, the students are thoughtfully divided into units, facilitating personalized attention and meticulous care. Esteemed figures such as the Head of the Department (HOD), Unit Chiefs, and Assistant Professors partake in elucidating bedside case discussions and orchestrating compelling clinical sign demonstrations. The afternoon period, spanning from 1 to 3 pm, is reserved for captivating theory classes conducted within the college premises. These sessions cultivate a comprehensive understanding of medical principles, contributing to a well-rounded education. The department's commitment to academic excellence is further exemplified through the administration of monthly exams and end posting exams. Such attentiveness to evaluation and progress ensures a remarkable pass percentage, exceeding 90%, highlighting the institution’s exceptional standards and dedication to the students’ success.

Postgraduates Classes

Postgraduate education holds paramount significance within a tertiary care center, and this notion resonates strongly within TDMC’s General Medicine Department. Each year, 16 postgraduate students are appointed through NEET PG exam resulting in a total of 48 highly motivated Postgraduate students A distinctive hallmark of our program lies in the meticulous attention given to each postgraduate student. The art of clinical medicine is imparted by distinguished stalwarts such as the head of the Department (HOD), Unit Chiefs, and esteemed faculty members. Moreover, specific mentors are assigned to cater to the needs of male and female postgraduate students, ensuring a supportive and nurturing environment. The department prides itself on fostering a student-friendly ambiance, with a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of ragging. Every effort is made to create a comfortable setting that prioritizes the physical and mental well-being of the students. Additionally, a dedicated weekly day-off is granted to each student, allowing for rejuvenation and personal time. The daily schedule commences with grand clinico discussion rounds conducted by the HOD and Unit Chiefs from 8 am to 12 pm. These sessions offer a platform for comprehensive case analysis and enlightening exchanges. From 12 pm to 1 pm, PG academic classes take place in Harrison Hall, providing a structured learning environment that facilitates intellectual growth. Following this, from 1 pm to 2 pm, the unit chief leads engaging case presentations and discussions, encouraging active participation and critical thinking among the postgraduate students. Saturdays are reserved for Directly Observed Procedural Skills (DOPS) sessions conducted by the HOD, promoting hands-on clinical skills development. To ensure continuous assessment of knowledge, frequent model assessment tests are conducted, enabling an accurate evaluation of each student’s progress. The postgraduates are nurtured to perceive patients holistically, honing their skills in reasoning, differential diagnosis, appropriate investigations, and staying abreast of updated guidelines and protocolbased management. Furthermore, students are encouraged to contribute by sharing interesting and rare case reports and manuscripts for potential publication in internationally reputable journals. This emphasis on scholarly engagement encourages research exploration and broadens the students’ professional horizons.

Examination

 

The Department of General Medicine regularly organizes examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate students. These examinations take place at the end of each month, specifically from 10 am to 1 pm, in the esteemed Subbarao Hall.
The topics for these exams are carefully selected from the renowned Harrison’s textbook, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. To further enhance the students’ learning experience, model practical exams are conducted at the conclusion of each posting, providing them with valuable hands-on training.
In order to support the final year undergraduate and postgraduate students during this crucial period, the Head of the Department has initiated special rapid revision classes. These daily sessions are specifically tailored to cover both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, aimed at enabling the students to excel and achieve remarkable ranks within the university.
As a testament to the department’s commitment to academic excellence, an esteemed tradition has been established. The Department of General Medicine proudly inaugurated its first-ever Gold Medal Exam, exclusively for final year postgraduate students preparing for their final examinations. This prestigious event not only recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of the participating students but also serves as a platform to foster healthy competition and inspire future generations.
During the Gold Medal Exam, the top three candidates are honored with certificates and mementos, symbolizing their outstanding achievements. However, the ultimate accolade is bestowed upon the winner, who receives a highly coveted gold medal as a testament to their exceptional performance and dedication.
